243 Truckers Ticketed During “Operation Truck Stop”

Published:

Indiana police issued a total of 243 citations and 289 warnings during last week’s “Operation Truck Stop“, an enforcement blitz aimed at truckers on U.S. 20 and State Road 2 last week.

“Operation Truck Stop” was a response to complaints from the public about heavy truck traffic and reckless driving by truck drivers in Porter, LaPorte and St. Joseph Counties.

Indiana State Police announced the results for the campaign this week. They cited 36 trucks for overweight violations, 105 for Federal Motor Carrier violations and placed 14 trucks out of service. They performed 89 truck inspections during the week.

Indiana police also arrested a trucker for Operating While Intoxicated and confiscated a stolen firearm. There was an arrest for marijuana possession.

The La Porte County Sheriff considers the campaign a success. He said, “Our collective goal was to make our roadways safer for all who travel and judging by the statistics, we all took a substantial step toward achieving our targeted goal.”
