3 Dead, 7 Hurt In Foggy Arkansas Pile Up

Published:

At least three people were killed and seven injured after a chain reaction crash that occurred during heavy fog on I-49 about 10 miles south of Texarkana, Arkansas.

Arkansas police say that the first crash happened just before midnight on the southbound lanes of I-49 when an 18 wheeler slowed down and was rear-ended. 10 vehicles total were involved in that crash and three people died.

At about the same time, three 18 wheelers in the northbound lanes crashed, causing one of the trucks to spill glue on the interstate.

Authorities were forced to close I-49. It has not yet reopened.

On-site reports say that one of the people who was killed was a truck driver who they believe got out of his truck to assist other motorists involved in the crash and was then hit by another vehicle.

Police are investigating whether fog contributed to the crashes.
