3 Urban Areas Where Crumbling Roads Cost Drivers The Most Money

Road Damage and Vehicle Operating Costs

A recently released report from TRIP showed that the cost of deteriorating roads to the people who drive on them — and the results aren’t good.

The study analyzed pavement conditions in large to mid-size urban areas to find how much driving on rough roads is costing in terms of repairs, vehicle deterioration, additional fuel cost and tire wear.

The report ranked the areas with the “highest vehicle operating costs (VOC) and highest share of pavements in poor conditions”.

1. San Francisco–Oakland, CA: $1,044 VOC

2. Los Angeles–Long Beach–Santa Ana, CA: $1,031 VOC

3. Concord, CA: $954 VOC
