If you’re a new driver, and about to head out on the road for the first time, it may be difficult to think of all the basic things you’ll need. Here’s a packing list to make the process a little easier!
Essentials:
– Clothing (At least 10 days’ worth if going OTR – and something to store your clothing in.)
– Coats (Fall/Winter Coat and Spring/Summer Jacket)
– Gloves (2 pairs – always have an extra pair)
– Bedding (Sheets, Blanket, Pillow)
– Cell Phone & Charger
– Bluetooth Headset
– GPS
– Paper Atlas
– Extra Paper Log Book (Even if you’re on E-Logs the DOT requires you to have a “Back-Up Log Book.”)
– CB Radio
– Small First Aid Kit (Can be purchased at Walmart for less than $15)
– Adult Bath Wipes (Assurance Wipes can be found in Incontinence Section at Walmart)
– Baby Wipes
– Shower Shoes
– Disinfectant Wipes
– Glass Cleaner
– Paper Towels
– Laundry Supplies (Detergent/Fabric Softener/Laundry Bag)
– Small Garbage Can
– Garbage Bags
– 2 Towels
– Thermos (If you drink coffee or use ice in drinks.)
– Slip-On Shoes To Drive In (Optional)
– Gallon Of Water
– Aspirin (and any other medications you may be taking.)
– Basic Tool Kit (Flashlight, hammer, screwdrivers, crescent wrench, etc.)
– Small Notebook
– Black, Blue & Red Pens
– 2 Envelopes for Receipts (One for Truck Receipts/One for Personal)
Extras:
– Laptop (For Games, Movies, Internet)
– Lunchbox Cooker
– Crockpot
– Cutlery
– Plates/Bowls
– Peroxide
– Food (If the truck has a refrigerator.)
