Truck drivers have blocked roads in six states, effectively shutting down 5.6 million miles of roads within Brazil. The strike is having a major impact on the delivery of food and on Brazil’s economy, as shipments of major exports like iron ore have been delayed.
The protests turned deadly, with one truck driver losing his life over the weekend when he was run over by another truck driver who was opposed to the strike.
The strike has caused severe delays in the shipment of milk, meat and soybeans, as well as diesel and gasoline.

Brazilian officials have tried to end the strike by freezing the price of diesel for the next six months, but they also warn that drivers will face heavy fines if they do not allow traffic through.
