The Freightliner Inspiration Truck made quite the splash in the trucking world earlier this month.
The Inspiration Truck is the first autonomous commercial truck to be licensed to operate on public roads in the U.S.
Freightliner says the Inspiration Truck is the “realistic vision of the future, combining the latest technological developments already deployed in today’s modern on-highway trucks with exciting breakthroughs in safety and connectivity that hold the promise to reduce highway congestion and improve the environment.”
While the Freightliner is an autonomous truck, the truck is not a driverless vehicle, “but one designed ‘to create the best possible experience’ for drivers, and to be the driver’s ‘partner ‘s the road. They also said DTNA has no plans to develop a Level 4 system—that is, a fully driverless truck.”
