Two people are dead and many more injured after a dust storm caused an 11-vehicle pile up near Lamar, Colorado on Wednesday night.
The Colorado State Patrol said that the chain-reaction crash occurred on the northbound lanes of Highway 287. The drivers involved, in both trucks and passenger vehicles, encountered the dust storm, slowed, and were then struck by other vehicles from behind.
Lanes of 287 were closed in both directions for several hours. Both lanes were said to be reopened as of 9:20 this morning.
Limited visibility from the dust storm is partially to blame for the pile up but investigators are also trying to determine whether speed was a factor in the crashes.
