Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Blitz To Take Place In October

Operation Safe Driver Week 2016 Results Released

Operation Safe Driver Week is taking place later this month. Are you prepared?

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance is holding its yearly Operation Safe Driver Week throughout North America from October 18 through October 24.

Last year, 24,000 vehicles were inspected as part of the enforcement blitz. In all, approximately 60,000 commercial and passenger vehicles were pulled over for unsafe driving practices during Operation Safe Driver Week last year.

The top five violations that truckers were cited for in 2014 were:

  1. Speeding
  2. Failure to use a safety belt
  3. Failure to obey traffic control devices
  4. Improper lane change
  5. Following too closely

In addition, the FMCSA used CSA scores to target carriers for on-site interventions last year. As a result, 193 compliance investigations were performed nationwide. 46% of these investigations led to some type of enforcement action.

The enforcement blitz is made possible by a partnership between the CVSA and the FMCSA to try to prevent fatal crashes and injuries. It has been performed yearly since 2007.
