The Commercial Vehicle Safety Administration (CVSA) yesterday announced they’re launching a new campaign, International Driver Excellence Award (IDEA)  to “recognize the exceptional careers of professional commercial motor vehicle drivers and their commitment to public safety.”

CVSA says it plans to announce an annual award that recognizes drivers who go above and beyond the call of duty as a driver and distinguish themselves through safe driving and compliance.

The agency is now accepting nominations for the inaugural IDEA program. The CVSA says the nominated driver must be, “of personal character beyond reproach with no disqualifying past behavior.”

Driver nominations must be submitted by Friday, February 27, 2015.

IDEA Program Committee members will review all IDEA driver nominations, however, the agency says they are not required to choose a winner, “if the nominees do not exemplify the qualities of the IDEA program.”

Award winners will be announced in April 2015.  The winner will be presented his or her award at the CVSA 2015 Annual Conference and Exhibition in September.  Travel expenses for the winner and one guest will be paid.
