Delivery Truck Driver Murdered For Cellphone And Less Than $30

Published:

Truck driver and grandfather Thomas Childs, 63, was shot twice and killed just before 4 a.m. in Delaware County, Pennsylvania on Tuesday. The incident happened at Ridgway Industries, where Childs had worked for the past 15 years.

Childs was preparing to make a delivery run from Delaware County to New York when he was shot at least twice, either while getting into his cab or while close to his cab. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Right after Childs was shot, another driver on the scene heard what he believed to be a gunshot and saw a suspicious looking male reaching for his waistband. The driver sped off and called 911.

Police discovered Childs’ phone and a small amount of cash dumped in the cemetery. It is believed that the perpetrator panicked and dumped the items.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Yeadon police headquarters at 610-623-1500.

This tragedy came the same week that an Indiana trucker was robbed at gunpoint for $6.
