A truck driver was killed this morning after he left the cab of his truck while it was moving on the highway and was run over by his own rig.
The incident took place around 6:20 this morning in Ormond Beach, Florida.
Driver Exits Truck While in Motion
The Florida Highway Patrol says that they had reports of an 18 wheeler driving erratically on U.S. 1. They say that the 46-year-old truck driver left the truck while it was still in motion. He fell onto the road and was run over by the truck.
The truck kept moving, crossing the median and crashing into a sedan head on. The two passengers in the car are in critical condition.
Crash Is Under Investigation
Police are unsure what caused the fatal crash. They have not yet released the names of the people involved.
The truck’s trailer was empty at the time of the crash.
U.S. 1 is closed in both directions while police investigate the incident.
