Driver Rescued After Plunging Into Manatee River During Thunderstorm

Published:

A truck driver survived a scary plunge off of a bridge into the Manatee River on Saturday night thanks to some Good Samaritans.

Timothy Dale, 29, was headed north on I-75 during a thunderstorm when he lost control and smashed through a concrete barrier, sending his truck tumbling off of the Jeff Young Bridge.

Dale survived but was stuck in his truck with water up to his chest. Local witnesses saw the crash and jumped into a boat, helping Dale out of the flooded cab.

Dale’s rescuers helped rinse diesel off of him until paramedics arrived to treat him.

Miraculously, he suffered only minor injuries.

Dale was charged with careless driving.
