Five people lost their lives early this morning after a multi vehicle collision in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, around midnight last night.
Police say that two 18 wheelers (one a tanker hauling food grade oil and the other a truck hauling frozen chicken) and at least 3 cars collided after one of the trucks was going too fast for a construction zone. The truck crashed into a van, running it off the road before crashing into another truck.
The truck driver that caused the accident was killed, along with one other car driver. Two adults and a child who were in the van were also killed.
I-65 south around the 178 mile marker is closed and isn’t expected to reopen until noon. Northbound lanes have reopened. Police are detouring traffic from I-65 to US 231, moving it to US 52 EB, then back to I-65.
