FBI: Truck Driver Convicted of Stealing Cargo

A truck driver was convicted Wednesday for failing to report a crash on I-90 in Montana where an 81-year-old Alaska man was killed about a year ago.

According to a press release from the FBI, an Ohio truck driver was convicted in a federal court for stealing cargo.

Bruce Silver, 55, of Neffs, Ohio, admitted to “using his position as a commercial truck driver to steal merchandise.”

Silver was caused of stealing products from the Cabela’s Distribution Center in West Virginia.

The FBI states that Silver “devised a scheme to embezzle and steal Cabela’s merchandise while the goods were being transported. Specifically, in April 2014, Silver stole a shipment of Cabela’s products valued at more than $1,000.00.”

Silver pleaded guilty to the charges of Theft From Interstate Shipment.  He faces a fine of up to $250,000 and could serve up to 10 years in prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Bernard worked as a prosecutor on the case.  The investigation into the crime was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
