FMCSA To Push Back Deadlines For E-Logs And Other Truck Regulations

Only days after announcing a top 5 list of priorities and plans for the rest of the year, former FMCSA head Annette Sandberg says that they will push back the deadlines on several trucking regulation changes.

  1. Increased minimum insurance requirements. After huge amounts of backlash about increasing insurance requirements, Sandberg says that this regulation change has been pushed to the bottom of the FMCSA’s priority list.
  2. Speed limiters. Sandberg says it is unlikely that we will see a final rule on speed limiters until the end of 2016.
  3. Entry level driver training. A ruling on entry level driver training has already been pushed back until November 15, and Sandberg says to expect it to be pushed back even further.
  4. Prohibition of Coercion. OSHA is anxious to begin enforcing this rule, but issuance of the final rule won’t happen until the end of October at the earliest.
  5. Drug and alcohol test database. Sanders says that the March 2016 deadline will likely be pushed back even further.
  6. E-Logs. A final rule was expected at the end of September, but it has been pushed back until the end of October.
  7. Safety Fitness Determination. This is the only ruling that is slated to come through on time — expect to see a final rule by the end of September.

The regulation changes have been bogged down by lawsuits and red tape, but Sandberg says that she fully expects the regulations to be pushed through before President Obama leaves office.
