Two men shot a trucker and stole a trailer full of home goods early this morning in northwest Atlanta.
Hijackers Use Handgun & Sledgehammer to Force Trucker From Cab
Police are searching for the highjackers who attacked 43-year-old truck driver Warren Hardie as he was leaving the Norfolk Southern train yard. According to Atlanta police, the two thieves forced Hardie out of his cab by smashing his window with a sledgehammer. In the struggle that followed, Hardie heard a gun discharge and realized that he had been shot. At that point, Hardie ran back to the rail yard and the highjackers fled in his truck.
Trucker in Stable Condition, Police Search for Trailer
Hardie suffered a graze bullet wound to the head and has been hospitalized. He is in stable condition.
Police found the cab abandoned in an elementary school parking lot in DeKalb County. The white JB Hunt trailer with the number 231665 is still missing, say police. The trailer was not equipped with a tracking device. Anyone who spots the trailer is enouraged to contact the Atlanta Police Department. The number for their tip line is 404-577-TIPS.
