Horse Drawn Garbage Truck Is A Diesel-Free Solution For Small Vermont Town

Published:

Three hundred horsepower garbage trucks are getting a run for their money thanks to a 2-horse drawn garbage truck in Middlebury, Vermont.

Twice a week, a Percheron draft horse powered garbage truck collects trash and recycling from residents for $5 per bag, which is comparable to standard trash service prices.

Residents seem to be choosing the service for a variety of reasons. For one, kids and adults alike love the spectacle of seeing the horses working in the community. Others like that it is an environmentally friendly service, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. And some Middlebury residents appreciate that the horse drawn service is a return to the way things used to be.
