Idaho ‘Break-Up’ Speed Limit For CMVs Now In Effect

Last week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced that break-up speed restrictions are now in place on a section of U.S. 95, near the Canadian border.

Commercial vehicles weighing 10,000 pounds or more will be restricted to a 30 mph speed limit from Copeland Junction to the Canadian Line (mile marker 522 to 538.56) to “to protect against potential damage due to pavements and soils weakened by a combination of freeze-thaw cycles and heavier vehicles,” the Idaho Transportation Department states.

In addition, trucks will allowed legal axle weights, but oversize and overweight vehicles will not be allowed on the highway.
