Police are trying to determine the cause of yesterday morning’s head-on crash between a truck and a bus carrying Italian tourists on I-380 in the Pocano mountain region in eastern Pennsylvania.
Three people were killed, including the bus driver, and four others are in the hospital in critical condition after the crash. Eight others have been treated for moderate to mild injuries and released from the hospital. The truck driver involved did not sustain any major injury.
The bus, which departed from New York, was en route to Niagra Falls when a truck moved out of its lane and into oncoming traffic. The front end of the bus was wedged into the side of the trailer, which split in half during the crash. The cab of the truck rolled over onto its side next to the road.
State police say that another truck was involved in the crash, but the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The truck involved in the crash was owned by the Xtra Lease company, but officials are still investigating who leased it.
