Investigators: Trucker Found Under Bridge After Crash Likely Jumped

Published:

A trucker’s body was found under a bridge after a crash Monday morning on Clay’s Ferry bridge over the Kentucky River. The truck, which was carrying electrical equipment, lost control, hit a barrier, and burst into flames. There were explosions caused by fuel leaking from the truck. Witnesses told investigators that the truck was on its side leaning over the bridge, causing some debris and 100 gallons of fuel to fall into the river.

Police found the body of the 52-year-old driver from Miami on the south side of the Kentucky River, 300 feet down from Clay’s Ferry bridge.

Investigators were initially unsure whether the driver had been ejected from his cab during the crash or whether he jumped. As the investigation continued, they said that ejection was unlikely and that the driver had not suffered burns on either his body or his clothing.

Traffic on I-75 was disrupted for most of the day.
