LA Port Truck Drivers Go On Strike Indefinitely

Published:

Truck drivers at the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach Marine Terminals went on strike indefinitely as of 6 a.m. today.

The striking drivers, who work for Pacific 9 Transportation, say that they have been illegally misclassified as contract workers instead of employees. They also say that the company has refused to provide them with safe trucks to drive.

In addition, the truck drivers have sued the company and made claims for wage theft.

One Pac 9 driver told reporters, “the company refuses to recognize us as employees, refuses to provide us with safe and reliable trucks, and refuses to improve our work environment.”

This is the sixth time that Pac 9 drivers have gone on strike in the past two years. In the past, drivers went back to work because they needed income, but this time many say that they plan on joining other companies that offer their drivers employee status.
