Navistar subsidiary International Trucks announced today that it will offer over-the-air (OTA) reprogramming of engine control models for some International trucks.
International Trucks powered by N9, N10 and N13 proprietary engines will be able to use a secure Wi-Fi connection to initiate OTA engine reprogramming, which Navistar says will be a quick procedure that either the driver or fleet owner could perform at their own facility. Navistar says that they continue to work with technology and data security companies to ensure security.
Navistar president Bill Kozek says that, “over-the-air reprogramming in International trucks will revolutionize the way our customers’ trucks are serviced and maintained. This is another important example of how our connected vehicle leadership is paving the way for future advancements that will drive improvements in vehicle uptime and real-world, bottom-line results for our customers.”
Navistar has completed initial testing and will continue testing on its customer fleet for the rest of the year. The official launch of the technology is expected early next year.
