Just a week before the busy holiday weekend, a major interstate will be shut down completely.
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation, on Friday, May 15, 2015, the east and westbound lanes of I-220, near Shreveport, will be shut down.
“All lanes of I-220 both Westbound and Eastbound in Caddo Parish will be closed to all traffic from La. 1 / U.S. 71 (North Market Street) to I-20 (at the La. 3132 Interchange). This work is anticipated to last two days (2) and three (3) nights weather permitting.” the Louisiana Department of Transportation states.
“The lane/road closures will be in place 24 hours a day from 8:00 pm on Friday, May 15, 2015 until 4:00 am Monday, May 18, 2015.”
While the interstate is shut down, crews will begin working on installing a temporary concrete barrier wall in the westbound lanes. Â In addition, new transmission lines will be installed across I-220. Â The Department says the work is “necessary to continue new construction of the I-49 North/I-220 Interchange.”
Crews will also be working on installing overhead sign trusses on I-220 to the Cross Lake Bridge, Lakeshore, Jefferson Paige and Inner Loop exits.
The road closure is expected to end on Monday, May 18th at 4:00 a.m.
