Runaway Truck Kills Mother, Injures Family

Published:

A mother is dead and her family injured after a runaway 18 wheeler crashed into their pickup truck in Bartow County, Georgia last night.

Driver Forgot to Set Parking Brake

Police say that 52-year-old contract driver Ivan Delgado was performing a safety inspection on his truck loaded with harsh cleaning chemicals when he forgot to set the parking brake, sending the truck rolling 50 yards into the northbound lanes of Highway 41. Delgado was not in the truck when it started rolling.

Mom Killed, Family Expected to Survive

The truck slammed into a Toyota Tundra, killing a mother on impact and injuring the father and their two children. After two hours, rescue crews were able to extract the family. The father suffered minor injuries while the two children were taken to the hospital in serious condition. All are expected to survive.

Delgado was charged with DUI, First Degree Vehicular Homicide, Involuntary Manslaughter, Reckless Conduct and Failure to Exercise Due Care. Police suspect he was impaired by drugs and not alcohol.
