Sinkhole Nearly Swallows Truck, Oregon Highway 22 Closed Indefinitely

Both directions of Oregon’s Highway 22, also known as Three Rivers Highway, will be closed indefinitely after a sinkhole opened up under the road.

Around 12:30 this morning, Oregon authorities were alerted that an 18 wheeler had fallen into a ditch while trying to avoid a sinkhole near Dolph Junction in Yamhill county. The truck driver wasn’t seriously hurt, but it took crews around 3 hours to get the truck out.

Officials aren’t sure if the sinkhole opened up under the truck or if it was already there and the truck nearly fell into it.

The Oregon Department of Transportation says that the road will be closed indefininitely until it can be rebuilt.

Officials are recommending Highway 18 as an alternate route.
