A small plane has crashed on I-285 just north of Atlanta, killing all four people on board the plane and causing major traffic delays.
Traffic has been shut down in both directions after a single-engine Piper PA-32 crashed. Some reports say that the plane clipped a truck on the way down. The crash left smouldering wreckage along the median of the highway. Atlanta authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area.
No one outside of the plane was injured during the accident.
The plane crash has impacted traffic on I-285, I-85 and Ga. 400. Authorities say that I-285 could be closed for 8 hours or more.
All inner loop traffic on I-285 is being diverted onto Ashford Dunwoody Road. All outer loop traffic being diverted onto I-85.
Drivers are being directed to use I-75 north to Brookwood to I-85 north and vice versa.
The FAA has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
