Surprise Tornado Flips Truck, Injures 3 At Alabama Walmart

Published:

A suspected tornado tore through a Walmart in Troy, Alabama without warning late last night, flipping a truck and injuring at least 3 people.

The storm damaged several businesses along U.S. 231, including a Walmart that was open at the time and a Hibbett Sports store that was close by. The roofs of both stores caved in, frightening the shoppers inside.

Two people inside the Walmart were injured along with one other person in an 18-wheeler that overturned. All three were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Troy’s Mayor Jason Reeves said, “[the storm] flipped multiple trucks and tractor trailers in the parking lot, and damaged a strip-mall structure near the Walmart” but other reports indicate that only one 18-wheeler was overturned.

The National Weather Service did not issue a warning until 5 minutes after the suspected tornado had passed through Troy.
