Cargomatic App Allows Truckers To Make Extra Money

Published:

A new report from USA Today says that truck drivers and trucking companies are starting to enjoy benefits from the “Uber for trucking” app Cargomatic.

The report states that the 700 truckers working with Cargomatic are enjoying $500 to $2,500 more per shipment. One independent trucking company owner reported that his business was up 35% after using the app, which he says equated to over $100,000 in additional revenue.

The app works by filling space on trucks, allowing shippers to connect to truckers looking for freight to haul. When a shipment comes in, the Cargomatic lets its truckers know. If they are headed in the right direction, they can take it with a few clicks, eliminating lengthy conversations with dispatch.

The app is also good for shippers, enabling them to move local shipments at a lower cost.

Cargomatic does have a few obstacles in its path to success. There is a definite learning curve for those just starting to use the app. Further, Cargomatic is challenging long-established ways of doing trucking business. And many in the trucking industry report that they are skeptical about whether the app will work. Even one of the app’s biggest investors, Volvo, admits that Cargomatic has a lot of work ahead of them.

Cargomatic is only running in southern California and New York right now, but they are looking to expand in 2016.
