Driver Charged After Mattresses In Highway Kill Trucker On New Jersey Turnpike

Published:

The driver of a van who spilled mattresses onto the New Jersey Turnpike earlier this month, causing a crash that resulted in the death of a tanker truck driver, has been issued a summons to appear in court.

The crash happened on October 7 when mattresses fell off of a white cargo van into the road. According to witness reports, an SUV swerved into the path of a tanker truck, causing it to swerve and crash into a guardrail before rolling over and bursting into flames. The tanker truck driver, 40-year-old Kumar Dalip of Newark, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.

Dalip, who drove for JSK Transport, was a father of two and stepfather to three others.

Police say that the 26-year-old van driver, Adam Abuhamoud, was issued a citation for failing to have the mattresses properly secured to the van. He has a mandatory court appearance scheduled for November 19. He has been unavailable for comment.
