Fatal 18 Wheeler Crash Shuts Down I-5 Near Sacramento

A deadly crash involving an 18 wheeler and a pickup truck has shut down lanes of I-5 near Seamus Avenue in Sacramento.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. in rainy conditions. According to police, a FedEx truck driving in the southbound lanes of I-5 crossed over the median and crashed into a pickup truck traveling in the northbound lanes. The driver of the pickup truck was killed. There is not yet any word on the condition of the truck driver.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

All of the northbound lanes of I-5 and one southbound lane are closed. According to Caltrans, traffic is backed up for at least 7 miles.

Authorities are not sure when I-5 will reopen.

Drivers are encouraged to use Highway 99 as an alternate route.
