Trucking Owner Run Over By Own Truck While Checking Tires

A trucking company owner lost his life yesterday when he stopped to check the tires on one of his trucks and was run over.

Trucking Company Owner Tries to Help Disabled Truck in Intersection

The incident took place yesterday afternoon near I-24 in La Vergne, Tennessee. Local police say that Bears Trucking Inc., owner, 58 year old William Hayes III, was in an SUV following an employee driving one of the company’s trucks. The truck, which was not hauling a trailer, broke down at the intersection of Waldron Road and Charter Place.

Employee Behind the Wheel When Truck Hit Owner

Hayes got out of the SUV to work on the disabled truck when somehow it moved forward, running over him. Employee Timothy Crosson was behind the wheel of the truck at the time of the crash. Some reports on the incident say that Crosson did not see Hayes and attempted to make a right turn.

Hayes was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Investigation Into Incident Continues

No charges have yet been filed agains Crosson.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has taken over investigation of the incident.
