Trooper Shot, School Bus Catches Fire On I-676 In Philadelphia

Published:

I-676 was a chaotic scene this morning as a Pennsylvania State Trooper was shot and a school bus was completely engulfed in flames following a highway altercation.

The incident began around 9:30 a.m. when a State Trooper pulled over a white sedan with a driver and two passengers on I-676. During the traffic stop, reports say that one of the suspects got back into the sedan and fled. The sedan then rear-ended a school bus and the suspect fired shots at the trooper. It is believed that the trooper returned fire, but none of the people in the sedan were hurt. The bus caught fire as a result of the crash.

There were no children on the bus at the time of the incident. There is no word on the condition of the bus driver.

The trooper took the shot in his shoulder. He is expected to survive.

The New York Times reports that two suspects are in custody as a result of this incident.

I-676 was closed for hours as a result of the incident, but some lanes have now reopened.
