Truck Driver “Messing With Radio” Causes Fiery Crash That Shut Down I-65

Published:

A truck driver carrying 17,000 pounds of potassium hydroxide hit an abandoned car on the shoulder of I-65 in Indianapolis told investigators he was “messing with his radio” when the crash took place around 5:30 this morning (April 15).

Truck driver David Gruendler was not injured during the accident. His truck caught fire, forcing I-65 South to close for several hours while Hazmat crews cleaned up.

State police said that drivers should expect lane restrictions for the rest of the day while crews continue with their cleanup efforts.

There is no word yet as to whether Gruendler will be ticketed for the accident.
