Tired of waiting in long lines at the Virginia ports? There’s an app for that!
PortNinja is a free, user-supported web app that gives you real-time conditions at the ports.
“Like the Waze driving app owned by Google, ‘PortNinja’ allows professional intermodal truck drivers to report problems backed up gates, downed equipment, in and nearport congestion and allows other divers to confirm the incident, or report that it’s been resolved. This free app allows drivers to get a bird’seye view of port conditions so that they can plan their daily moves more efficiently. It’s allowing drivers to help other drivers to avoid potential congestion. PortNinja will also allow drivers to track and report ‘Turn Times’ through the port an important metric of port efficiency,” a press release from PortNinja states.

The app tells you when there are long lines, provides estimated wait times and logs the number of “incidents” that have occurred.
In addition, the app provides port route traffic updates. The app is FREE for all to use and never has to be refreshed.
For now, the app only provides information for Ports of Virginia, but the app’s developers have reported they hope to expand the services to all U.S. ports.
