A truck driver was killed early Thursday morning (April 9) at a Love’s truck stop in Fair Play, off of I-85 in South Carolina when he was hit twice by another driver trying to fuel up.
53-year-old driver Garvin Libert was leaving the store and headed back to his truck in a dark part of the parking lot when he was hit.
The driver who hit him had been asleep. He woke up and started to move his truck in order to get fuel.
The driver told authorities that he hit something, reversed, and then hit it again. When he stepped out of his truck and found Libert’s body under his truck, he called 911.
Libert, who was identified by his Marine I.D., was holding one postcard addressed to his mother and another addressed to his niece when he was hit. Libert was wearing a black shirt, making him difficult to see in the dark.
