Denver Police have located the truck that did not stop after hitting three or four bridges on northbound I-25 in downtown Denver yesterday, causing rush hour traffic snarls.
Authorities are unsure why the driver did not stop. Colorado DOT spokeswoman Amy Ford asked:
“How do you hit, not one, but not two, but three bridges without noticing, and continuing along the road in doing so, and then leaving the scene? If you cannot fit through that with your load, you cannot take I-25, and it’s as simple as that.”
Police spent much of the day yesterday trying to locate a white flat bed truck hauling a yellow excavator that struck the bridges. They eventually found the truck in a lot in Commerce City and confirmed that the excavator did have concrete dust from the I-25 bridges on it.
I-25 was closed down while inspectors made sure that the bridges were safe, causing significant traffic backups.
Police say that they know who the truck driver is and will question him today.
