A trucker was arrested on Saturday for killing his ex-wife after a two-hour stand off with police in a truck lot near the Target Distribution Center in Madison, Alabama.
Two days after their divorce was finalized, 63-year-old truck driver Roger Stevens allegedly waited outside of the bakery where his ex-wife Kay Stevens worked. When she left the building, he shot her multiple times and fled.
Kay Stevens was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Police were able to track Stevens to a truck lot close to the Target Distribution Center on Greenbriar Road where he worked for a third party carrier. Stevens refused to come out of his truck. At least 10 law enforcement cars responded to the situation, where officers had guns drawn as they sheltered behind their vehicles. Police and Stevens’ brother eventually convinced him to surrender.
Kay Stevens had requested a protective order last year after her husband made statements like “I’ll kill you if I ever see you with another man”, but the request was denied when the court found insufficient evidence of abuse.
Stevens has been charged with murder and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
