Truckers Oppose Appointment System At Port Of Virginia

Trucking Execs Plead Guilty To Conspiracy Charges

A group of local trucking companies told the Virginia Port Authority that their plan to use a container terminal appointment system to decrease wait times isn’t good enough.

The Virginia Port Authority plans to use the appointment system to reduce turn times at the Norfolk International Terminals, but the trucking companies say that they will oppose the system unless it consistently reduces each driver’s wait times to between 60 and 70 minutes. The trucking companies say that the Port Authority needs to provide clarification on such issues as how many appointments a company can get in prime hours, penalties and computer outages.

There is already a voluntary appointment system in place a the Virginia International Gateway in Portsmouth.
