At approximately midnight, a driver opened fire on motorists who were traveling along I-40 near Hydro, Oklahoma.
“Custer County Sheriff Bruce Peoples said reports came in at about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday of a man firing at vehicles on Interstate 40 in Canadian County, which is adjacent to Oklahoma City. The man apparently continued driving west on the interstate, firing at vehicles as he drove fast and erratically, the sheriff said,” ABC news reports.
The suspect allegedly fired several shots at passing vehicles. The driver a passing car was shot and killed. A passenger in the car managed to call 911.
Minutes after that shooting, the suspect then opened fire on another vehicle, killing a woman.
Several other vehicles were struck by bullets, but the drivers escaped injury.
Nearly an hour after the shootings began, the shooter surrendered. He was arrested and is being held at the Custer County jail. Police have not yet established a motive.
