UPS To Install Collision Avoidance Technology On All Trucks

Published:

UPS has announced that it will install collision avoidance technology on all of the 18 wheelers in its fleet — starting with 2,600 trucks in 2015.

The UPS trucks will be fitted with a braking system from Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, which will cause the truck to brake automatically if it gets too close to the vehicle in front of it.

The trucks will also have electronic stability control systems, blind spot detection, and lane departure warning technology added.

UPS currently had 16,ooo big trucks on the road, so installing he collision avoidance technology will take time, but the company hopes that this will be a major step towards increasing highway safety.
