VIDEO: Volvo – Steep & Icy Norwegian Hills With An I-Shift Dual Clutch

Published:

Volvo has drawn inspiration from the racing world with their new gearbox that features the I-Shift Dual Clutch. This new clutch allows power-shifting without torque interruption – providing powerful delivery and smooth acceleration.

This design features two dry clutches that are located near the front of the gearbox. With a dual-clutch transmission, gears can be pre-selected and changed while the driver is in his or her current gear. Once the gear change has been made, the engaged clutch is released simultaneously with the previously idling clutch’s engagement without interruption.

The I-Shift Dual Clutch is available with the D13K engine in power levels 460, 500, and 540 hp.

According to 35-year veteran truck driver, Lars Lindgren (of Sweeden) – whose been testing the new transmission, “The first time I test-drove the truck with the new I-Shift Dual Clutch, I couldn´t believe how good it was, a revolutionary invention.”
