Women in Trucking Seeking Drivers for 2015 Image Team

Published:

Women in Trucking yesterday announced they’re seeing drivers for the 2015 Image Team.

Women in Trucking says the goal of the Image Team is to “bring awareness of the need for more women in the trucking industry and the obstacles that women face.”

The Image Team drivers will “be the face of Women in Trucking” and will attend truck shows, submit articles from their point of view, and conduct media interviews. “They will speak articulately and enthusiastically about the trucking industry. These women will also serve as mentors for new Image Team members,” WIT states.

“We are often contacted by media for interviews and ride-alongs and are excited to be able to offer interview requests in the future with an Image Team ready to speak about the positive aspects of their jobs and the industry,” said Ellen Voie, President and CEO, Women In Trucking. “Women are still an anomaly as drivers and the media is often intrigued to learn more about the female drivers who are perceived as doing a ‘man’s job.’ These drivers will break that stereotype and will be role models for the women who enter the trucking industry in the future.”

To serve as a member of the Image Team, you must have a valid CDL and be currently employed as a CMV driver. In addition, you must have an “outstanding safety record and speak convincingly about” your commitment to safety.

Nominations for Image Team will be accepted through January 31, 2015.

Applications can be found on the WIT website.

Ten applicants will be selected for interviews in February. The 2015 Image Team participants will be announced at the Salute to Women Behind the Wheel event at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky on March 28, 2015.
