Aggravated Assault Charges Filed For FedEx Truck Driver in School Bus Road Rage Incident

A FedEx truck driver has been charged with aggravated assault following a three week investigation into an alleged road rage incident with a school bus driver that was caught on video in New Jersey.

Road Rage Incident Becomes Viral Video

The incident took place on September 14 near Garden State Parkway in Lakewood, New Jersey. The video shows the school bus making an illegal pass on the FedEx truck and then the FedEx truck swerving towards the school bus. The incident was captured on dash cam and quickly went viral. It has been viewed over 80,000 times.

Both Drivers Fired Over Incident

Soon after seeing the video, both the FedEx driver, 48 year old Sigmund Winiavski, and the school bus driver, 68 year old Morris Wilder, were reportedly fired from their jobs.

Charges Elevated Because Incident Involved School Bus

Yesterday the Lakewood Police Department announced that Winiavski has been charged with aggravated assault for trying to run the school bus off the road. Police said that because no contact was made and no injuries were reported, Winiaviski would have normally faced simple assault charges. However, the charge was elevated to aggravated assault on account of the fact that it involved a school bus.

Police acknowledge that Wilder also made an illegal maneuver, but declined to charge him criminally.

Both Wilder and Winiaviski were issued several motor vehicle summonses for their roles in the incident.
