As part of a security plan for the Democratic National Convention, all trucks on part of I-95 in Philadelphia are being diverted to a checkpoint to be weighed, causing heavy traffic backups.
PennDOT: Many Truck Drivers Ignored Weight Restriction Signs
PennDOT has issued press releases and put up about 100 signs warning commercial vehicle drivers that any truck over 5 tons will not be allowed on I-95 near the Wells Fargo Center between Exit 13 and Exit 22 during the week of the Democratic National Convention. However, local reports indicate that many truck drivers violated the temporary ban over the weekend, so police were forced to dedicate an entire lane of traffic to diverting overweight trucks off the interstate.
Troopers Set Up Checkpoints To Stop Trucks Over 5 Tons
State Police have also set up two checkpoints to catch trucks in violation of the weight limit. The checkpoints are located near the intersection of Vine Street Expressway and I-95 and near the airport. They are reportedly weighing each and every truck, which is causing traffic problems.

The 5 ton restriction will be in place until midday Friday.
