Arkansas Rest Area To Close, Will Reopen As Tourist Info Center

The Big Piney rest area off I-40 in Arkansas will shut down for more than a year — and when it reopens it will be a tourist information center.

The rest area, which is located between Knoxville and London will close at 7 a.m. on January 8 to begin year-long renovations. It will reopen in mid-2017 if all goes as planned as a tourist information center with more restrooms to accommodate disabled travellers and more family-friendly amenities like baby changing stations.

The rest area will also provide free WiFi and self-service kiosks with information about nearby tourist attractions.

Arkansas officials say that drivers should use alternate facilities.
