Cummins, Inc. has announced a recall of around 5,500 diesel truck engines because of an electrical problem that could result in a blown fuse.
According to the recall notice, “The Engine Control Model may develop an internal electric short circuit that could possibly blow a fuse in the ECM’s electrical supply circuit, resulting in an engine stall without warning. If this occurs, the engine cannot be restarted until the ECM and fuse are replaced.” The notice also points out that an unexpected engine stall increases the risk of a crash.
The recall affects trucks with ISX12 and ISX15 engines that were manufactured between March 7 and April 12.
Cummins will contact truck owners and replace the ECM for free.
The recall is expected to start July 7.
