Driver Crashes Runaway Dump Truck Into Tree To Avoid Hitting Cars

Published:

A dump truck driver likely saved lives yesterday when he decided to crash into a tree when his brakes suddenly failed.

The crash happened at 8:30 a.m. on Ralston Avenue in Belmont, California. A 52 year old truck driver was hauling 30,000 pounds of gravel east on Ralston Avenue when he said that his brakes suddenly failed.

The truck driver attempted to stop the runaway vehicle by scraping the tires against the curb. When that didn’t work, he chose to crash the dump truck into a pine tree so that he wouldn’t hit other vehicles.

Fortunately, the truck driver wasn’t injured in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash but say that mechanical failure appears to be at fault.
