A dump truck driver lost his life last night when his vehicle rolled down a 300 foot embankment at a Salt Lake City quarry.
Employees at the Staker quarry noticed that the 50 year old driver was missing around 11 p.m. last night. They went searching for him and found his truck partially submerged in water at the bottom of the quarry.
The workers rushed to get the driver out of the truck and performed CPR on him, but they could not save him. Rescue crews pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
Employees believe that the truck driver backed up a little too far when he was dumping rocks, causing his truck to fall down the embankment.
The Salt Lake City Police Department will investigate the man’s death as an industrial accident. OSHA is expected to join in on the investigation.
