Investigators are working to learn more about the motives of a man who crashed his dump truck into security gates at the FBI’s Pittsburg division building this morning.
According to reports, the Ohio-based man was driving erratically at 11 a.m., running red lights and stop signs. When a city police officer finally pulled the dump truck driver over and had a brief conversation with him, the truck driver told the officer that he would would ram the gates.
The dump truck then sped away from the officer and the driver quickly fulfilled his promise, smashing through the front gates and even going airborne off of a security barrier before coming to a stop after hitting a light pole in an employee parking lot.
The truck driver is believed to have hit his head against the windshield. He was taken to the hospital after being tackled and arrested.
Police did not find explosives on the truck and do not believe that the driver had any links to terrorist activity at this time.
It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident. It is also unclear who owns the truck or why it was in Pittsburgh.
The FBI is working to learn more about the driver’s motives and to decide what charges to file against him.
