Indiana State Police say that a malfunctioning e-cigarette exploded in a truck driver’s face, causing him to veer off of I-65 early this afternoon.
E-Cigarette Explosion Sends Truck Crashing Off Road
The incident happened on I-65 north near Austin, Indiana. Police arrived on the scene around 1 p.m. to find that an 18 wheeler had veered off the interstate and into the grass. The truck driver told them that an e-cigarette had exploded in his face. Police found evidence in the truck that backed up the driver’s story.
Truck Driver Sustains Significant Injuries
The truck driver was transported to the hospital with facial burns and blood loss due to cuts he sustained during the incident. As of now, the driver’s condition is unknown.
Both lanes of I-65 were shut down for some time as crews worked to remove the truck, but they have since reopened.
Police are still investigating the crash.
